Each date's board is seeded, so it starts from the same position every player got that day, which is what makes a replay meaningful. Beat your old score, or find out whether a day that ended early for you actually had a long run hiding in it.
How the archive works
One board per day, the same for everyone, and playing it while the day is live is what counts toward your records and streak. Archive boards are practice. Replay any date as many times as you like and nothing in your stats will move, which makes this the place to experiment once today's run is already banked.
Chasing a bigger tile
The reliable route to 2048 and beyond is discipline, not luck: keep your largest tile parked in a corner, build the rest of that row in descending order, and avoid the one swipe direction that would dislodge it. Old daily boards are a good place to drill this, because replaying the same start lets you feel exactly where a promising run went wrong.
