Number seven just dropped. 2048 is now on Tapbreak, and it's the kind of game that makes you look up and wonder where the last half hour went.
If you've never played: you slide tiles on a 4×4 grid. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one with double the value. Start with 2s, build up to 4s, 8s, 16s, and keep going until you hit the mythical 2048 tile — or run out of moves trying.
The rules
- Use arrow keys or swipe to slide all tiles in one direction.
- Matching tiles merge when they collide — 2+2=4, 4+4=8, and so on.
- After each move, a new tile (2 or 4) appears on a random empty cell.
- Reach 2048 to win. You can keep playing after for a higher score.
- Game over when no moves are left.
Why we added it
2048 is one of those games that everyone has played at least once but never gets old. The rules take ten seconds to learn, but the strategy runs deep. Keeping your biggest tile in the corner, building chains along the edges, knowing when to break your pattern — there's a lot more going on than it looks.
Plus, it's perfect on mobile. Swipe up, swipe left, watch numbers grow. It just feels good.
Seven games and counting
The lineup keeps growing: Wordle Free, Klondike, Tic-Tac-Toe, Chess Puzzles, Sudoku, Trivia, and now 2048. Something for every kind of break.
Go slide some tiles.
