What is this game?
A quiz game in the mould of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." Each round pulls from science, history, geography, literature, art, sport and entertainment, among others. You get 8 multiple-choice questions with four options each, one of which is right. Every round plays out all 8, so there's no early exit. Finish with two mistakes or fewer and you've won the round, and every answer earns points on the way through.
How scoring works
A correct answer is worth 100 points, and two bonuses stack on top of that. The speed bonus starts at 50 and fades to nothing over ten seconds, so an instant confident answer is worth half again as much as a long deliberation. The streak bonus adds 10 points for every consecutive correct answer beyond the first, up to 50, which is why a clean run through the back half of a round is where the big scores come from.
A perfect round, fast and unbroken, tops out at 1,600 points. The leaderboard ranks daily rounds by score, so two players who got the same number right are separated by nerve and tempo.
One round a day
One quiz a day: the same 8 questions in the same order for everyone who visits. Your first round is the one that counts. Finish it with two mistakes or fewer and your streak grows, and your score feeds both your statistics and the day's leaderboard.
After that the play button just keeps the questions coming. Randomly chosen rounds, as many as you want, none of them touching your record. Good for picking up new facts, or for warming up before tomorrow's quiz.
The 50/50 hint
Twice a round you can call a hint that eliminates two wrong answers, leaving the correct one and a single decoy. The classic 50/50 lifeline. Once a hint is spent it doesn't come back, and you get two per round no matter how many questions are left.
There's a quieter cost as well. The seconds you spend deciding whether to use a hint drain your speed bonus, so a hint is really trading points for safety. Saving them for the harder questions late in a round is usually right, but an early hint can protect both your mistake budget and an unbroken streak bonus, which is worth more than it looks.
How categories work
Questions come from a pool of thousands across dozens of categories. Each one shows its category in the top corner, so you know the subject area before you commit to an answer. The daily set is fixed: every player sees the same questions in the same order. Extra rounds draw randomly from the full pool, so you'll rarely meet the same question twice.
Streaks and statistics
A streak is the number of consecutive days you've won the daily quiz. Miss a day, or lose a daily round, and it goes back to zero. This page tracks your current streak, your best-ever streak, win percentage, best score, total puzzles solved, and perfect rounds, meaning all 8 questions answered without a single mistake. All of it lives in your browser's local storage, and none of it needs an account.
Tips for better scores
When you know the answer, commit fast. Hesitating on a question you've already solved is the most common way to leak speed-bonus points. When you don't know, do the opposite and slow down: the bonus is mostly gone by then anyway, so read every option and protect your mistake budget instead.
Watch the category label. Knowing whether a question is about geography or science rules out a surprising number of answers that belong to the wrong domain. Guard your streak too, since the bonus resets on any miss, and a hint spent in the middle of a long correct run usually pays for itself. And keep in mind that a round is won at two mistakes or fewer, which makes a cautious 50/50 on a coin-flip question worth more than a confident guess.
About the question bank
Questions come from the OpenTriviaQA project, a community-curated open-source trivia database licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. The pool holds tens of thousands of questions across dozens of categories, which keeps repetition low from one daily quiz to the next. We leave out the categories aimed at very young audiences, since they skew the difficulty for everyone else.
