How to play Wordle
Find the hidden word in six guesses. Each row gives you clues for the next one.
The three colours
- Green: the right letter, in the right position.
- Yellow: a letter in the answer, but in a different position.
- Grey: no remaining copies of that letter in the answer. If you guessed it only once, it is absent; if you repeated it, check the other copies.
Every guess must be a real word of the right length. Invalid guesses do not use an attempt. The classic game has five letters; Tapbreak also has 4-letter and 6-letter practice.
Repeated letters: try it yourself
Greens are assigned first. The remaining copies in the answer are then used for yellow tiles, from left to right. A letter can be green or yellow in one tile and grey in another.
APPLE has one L and one E. The first L is yellow, the second is grey. The final E is green, so the other E is grey.
ALLEE against APPLE: A green, L yellow, L grey, E grey, E green.
What changes in Hard Mode?
Every new guess must keep green letters in position and include all revealed yellow letters. If clues reveal two copies of a letter, use both. Tapbreak's Hard Mode enforces these positive clues; grey letters are not forbidden.
After ALLEE against APPLE, your next guess needs A first, E last and at least one L. Try APPLY, AMPLE or APPLE below.
Keep E in position 5
