How to play 4-letter Wordle
Guess the hidden 4-letter English word in six attempts. Type a word and press Enter, or use the on-screen keyboard. Every guess must be in our dictionary.
- Green: the letter is in the correct position.
- Yellow: the letter appears elsewhere in the answer.
- Grey: the answer has no remaining copies of that letter. Repeated letters can have different colours.
A shorter word, with the same six chances
Four-letter Wordle offers a compact alternative to the classic five-letter game. Try an opener such as RATE or LION, then combine the clues. A small board can still hide a tricky family: COLD, CORD and WORD share several letters, so use each guess to separate candidates.
Shorter does not always mean easier. Double letters are allowed, and words such as MOON or TREE need two copies of one letter. A grey copy does not cancel a green copy elsewhere.
Unlimited rounds, your own pace
Our 4-letter answer pool contains 1,337 words, selected using word-list membership and subtitle frequency, with profanity and simple -s plurals filtered out. The accepted guess list is broader than the answer pool. This is Tapbreak's own list, independent of The New York Times.
